Beckham's Arrival Sparks New MLS Product From Upper Deck
Perhaps it was only a matter of time. When David Beckham joined the L.A. Galaxy earlier this year, it was only natural to wonder if his presence would create more interest in Major League Soccer collectibles - including cards.
Upper Deck thinks it will. Though the company has held a license to produce MLS cards for some time, it hasn't released any soccer cards since 2005. With Beckham's star power in the fold, UD announced that the time was right to revisit the world's most popular sport.
"We're looking forward to a tremendous season in soccer this year and attendance continues to rise at games thanks to the arrivals of international players such as Juan Pablo Angel and David Beckham." said Brandon Miller, Soccer Brand Manager for Upper Deck, in a recent press release.
Highlights of the 2007 MLS set include 100 base cards, single and dual autograph cards and an insert card in every pack. Expect to see the cards in stores starting November 2 at a suggested retail price of $1.99 for nine cards.
