Sabathia, Richardson Among Athletes Changing Addresses
It looks like it's that time of year. No, not the holiday season, but the season for athletes trading in their old uniforms for brand new duds.
In Major League Baseball, the winter meetings in Las Vegas saw the New York Yankees make a big move - something they're known for doing - by signing CC Sabathia to a seven-year, $161 million deal. The Mets shook things up too, getting not one but two proven relief pitchers.
Things are also heating up in the NBA (and will be in the NHL before too long), as evidenced by the five-player trade between the Suns and Bobcats that landed Jason Richardson in Phoenix. That's in addition to Allen Iverson already going from Denver to Detroit for Chauncey Billups.
None of these moves will have seismic impacts on the hobby, but they are always worth following because they can affect the value of your collection - in positive or negative ways. And in the case of an athlete going to an obviously improved situation, whether that's in terms of competitiveness, market size, or like Sabathia, both, it can be an opportunity to sell off some cards at temporarily increased prices thanks to increased demand.
