The 2001 season marked the end of Cal Ripken Jr.’s incredible career on the diamond, but his list of autographed cards continued to expand. Collectors buying products from Donruss, Topps, Fleer and Upper Deck all had a chance to pull Ripken signatures during his final campaign.
Donruss paired Ripken with Alex Rodriguez again on the Donruss Elite Passing the Torch Autographs # PT20, but it was even tougher to come by with a print run of just 50 copies. Fleer created a pair of cards that matched Ripken’s signature with a game-used bat swatch, while Upper Deck’s SP Authentic featured a number of buyback cards - previously released cards that were purchased by the company and then given to Ripken to sign.
