Autographed Cards
Aside from the various autographed parallels, E-X has an additional autographed insert called Clearly Authentics Autographs. Despite what the name might imply, these cards feature signatures on regular card stock, not plastic.
There are 81 different players on the insert checklist, and while many are lesser names, there are a few big ones like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Yao Ming, and some others just a notch down like the Chauncey Billups auto in my review box.
The Last Word
Some collectors are certainly going to dismiss E-X as just a gimmick, and some of Fleer's sets from the past didn't have that much going for them. But Upper Deck managed to preserve the brand's identity while making it a much more solid product for the price.
With it's on-card autographed rookies, distinctive inserts and yes, the cool plastic cards, 2006-07 E-X basketball packs a lot into a box you should be able to find for under $100. It might not be the most obvious Fleer brand to keep alive, but it goes beyond it's gimmick to become a worthy addition to Upper Deck's product line.
