The 2008 edition of Topps Mayo Football has proven to be a hit with collectors, doing for football cards some of the same things that Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball did for baseball cards. Among the similarities between the two sets are a number of short prints among the base cards, which Topps revealed a few weeks after Mayo Football's release.
A total of 55 cards are short-printed at a rate of 1:2 packs. The subjects include a number of rookies, most notably Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan.

Topps also announced print runs for a number of the set's autographed and relic (memorabilia) cards. Several big NFL names, like Archie, Eli and Peyton Manning, signed limited quantities of autographs, and a majority of the non-sport relics have low print runs.
