When it comes to popular NASCAR drivers, there's Dale Earnhardt Jr. and there's everyone else. Of course, sharing the same name as one of the sport's true greats helps, but Junior's personality and talent have gone a long way toward winning over his legions of fans.
Racing card manufacturers have recognized Earnhardt's appeal to collectors, and they've been putting him on autographed cards and utilizing pieces of his race used memorabilia almost from the beginning of his career. With each passing season, a new wave of releases only adds to the list.
Press Pass (along with Upper Deck, early in Junior's career) has done a fantastic job of using Earnhardt in its memorabilia card programs, and everything from race used tires to sheet metal to car covers has been embedded in cards. Junior is also featured on several dual and triple cards with his DEI teammates: first Michael Waltrip, and later Martin Truex Jr. and Paul Menard. His announced departure from DEI at the end of the 2007 season means collectors will have all new combos to look forward to in 2008.
Speaking of combos, Dale Jr. did manage to lend his signature to one dual autograph card with his famous father before the elder Earnhardt's untimely death. Not surprisingly, the 2000 Maxximum Signatures # DE2 commands a four-digit price tag whenever it comes up for sale.
